Tragic ending for missing man Body of Cecilton man found along C&D Canal By Jane Bellmyer jbellmyer@cecilwhig.com Published: Wednesday, March 18, 2009 5:06 AM CDT The body of a missing Cecilton man has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy after being found Tuesday afternoon along the C&D Canal. The call came around 4:30 p.m. “911 received a call about a possible deceased person in the bed of a pickup truck,” said Lt. Bernard Chiominto, spokesman for the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office. That call came from Jonathan Snyder of Rising Sun. He and his friend Ryan Ferguson from Chesapeake City were riding four-wheelers along the levee. |

“We saw the legs … didn’t know what it was at first,” he said. The pair got closer and saw a truck covered in mud with the driver’s side door open. “We tried yelling at him, we revved our four-wheelers and we screamed,”
Snyder said. “He wasn’t moving.” Chiominto said Tuesday evening the man had been missing for two days. |

“His wife had come in and reported him missing,” he said. “He was last
seen March 15 by a family member.” Chiominto declined to identify the man. He did say the man matched the description of the person missing from Cecilton. “Right now it appears he is our missing person,” he said. With the investigation still developing, police could provide few other details. “We have not determined a cause of death,” he said. Chiominto said more information could be available today.

Police rule out foul play in Chesapeake City death Exact cause still not knownBy Carl Hamiltoncahamilton@cecilwhig.comPublished: Wednesday, March 25, 2009 6:23 PM CDTA 35-year-old Cecilton man found dead last week along the C&D Canal in Chesapeake City was not a victim of foul play, according to the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office. “The autopsy results are back, and foul play has been ruled out,” Lt. Bernard Chiominto said Wednesday. “The medical examiner found no signs of trauma or any other injury consistent with (an assault).” Investigators had not determined what caused the death of Aron Hawks as of Wednesday. |
||
Chiominto said they are awaiting additional
autopsy results that could answer that question. A toxicology screening
should show what, if any, drugs, alcohol or other substances were in a
person’s body at the time of death, he said. The test also could
indicate if Hawks had any medical conditions, Chiominto said. Jonathan
Snyder of Rising Sun and his friend, Ryan Ferguson of Chesapeake City,
discovered Hawks’ body in the bed of a pickup truck parked in North
Chesapeake City while they were riding four-wheelers on the levees along
the canal at about 4:30 p.m. on March 17. The truck was covered in mud
and the driver’s side door was open when the body was found. Hawks had
been missing for two days. A family member last saw him on March 15,
police said. Hawks’ wife had filed a missing person report, police
added.
