The body of a missing Cecilton man has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy after being found Tuesday afternoon along the C&D Canal.  The call came around 4:30 p.m.  “911 received a call about a possible deceased person in the bed of a pickup truck,” said Lt. Bernard Chiominto, spokesman for the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office. That call came from Jonathan Snyder of Rising Sun. He and his friend Ryan Ferguson from Chesapeake City were riding four-wheelers along the levee.

“We saw the legs … didn’t know what it was at first,” he said.

The pair got closer and saw a truck covered in mud with the driver’s side door open.

“We tried yelling at him, we revved our four-wheelers and we screamed,” Snyder said. “He wasn’t moving.”

Snyder said Ferguson got close enough to realize the man wasn’t breathing. He rode to the fire house to notify police.

Chiominto said Tuesday evening the man had been missing for two days.

“His wife had come in and reported him missing,” he said. “He was last seen March 15 by a family member.”

Chiominto declined to identify the man. He did say the man matched the description of the person missing from Cecilton.

“Right now it appears he is our missing person,” he said.

With the investigation still developing, police could provide few other details.

“We have not determined a cause of death,” he said.

Chiominto said more information could be available today.

Foul play is not suspected in the death of 35-year-old Aron Hawks of Cecilton.

Hawks’ body was found Tuesday afternoon in the bed of a mud-covered pickup truck parked along the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.

Lt. Bernard Chiominto, spokesman for the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators are still
waiting for toxicology results from an autopsy performed at the Office of the Maryland State Medical Examiner.

“But there was no trauma to the body … no signs of foul play,” he said.

According to Chiominto, investigators suspect being outside may have contributed to the man’s death.

“His body core temperature was below normal … he was muddy and wet. He may have fallen in the mud,”

Chiominto said.Jonathan Snyder and Ryan Ferguson discovered Hawks’ body in the back of the truck just before 4:30 p.m. The
pair were riding four-wheelers along the levee when they came upon the truck. Its driver’s side door was open.

Snyder said after they realized what they were seeing, they tried to get the man to respond. When that failed, they went to Chesapeake City Firehouse and called 911.

Chiominto said police have still not received a report from the medical examiner to confirm the cause of death.

Police rule out foul play in Chesapeake City death

Exact cause still not knownBy Carl Hamiltoncahamilton@cecilwhig.comPublished: Wednesday, March 25, 2009 6:23 PM CDTA

35-year-old Cecilton man found dead last week along the C&D Canal in Chesapeake City was not a victim of foul play, according to the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office. “The autopsy results are back, and foul play has been ruled out,” Lt. Bernard Chiominto said Wednesday. “The medical examiner found no signs of trauma or any other injury consistent with (an assault).” Investigators had not determined what caused the death of Aron Hawks as of Wednesday.

Chiominto said they are awaiting additional autopsy results that could answer that question. A toxicology screening should show what, if any, drugs, alcohol or other substances were in a person’s body at the time of death, he said. The test also could indicate if Hawks had any medical conditions, Chiominto said. Jonathan Snyder of Rising Sun and his friend, Ryan Ferguson of Chesapeake City, discovered Hawks’ body in the bed of a pickup truck parked in North Chesapeake City while they were riding four-wheelers on the levees along the canal at about 4:30 p.m. on March 17. The truck was covered in mud and the driver’s side door was open when the body was found. Hawks had been missing for two days. A family member last saw him on March 15, police said. Hawks’ wife had filed a missing person report, police added.
